\n Dear Colleagues,\n<\/p>\n

\nWe are organizing a Special Issue of the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health<\/em>\n (IJERPH), entitled \u201cProceedings of the 2022 Research Centers in Minority\n Institutions (RCMI) Consortium National Conference\u201d, to highlight the\n research advances reported virtually on March 16, 2022 \u2013 March 18, 2022\n (https:\/\/www.rcmi-cc.org\/<\/a>). IJERPH is a peer-reviewed scientific journal\n that publishes articles and communications in the interdisciplinary area of\n environmental health sciences and public health. For detailed information\n on the journal, we refer you to https:\/\/www.mdpi.com\/journal\/ijerph<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n \n

\n Building on the successes of previous RCMI national and international\n symposia on health disparities, the 2023 RCMI Consortium National\n Conference theme is Inclusive Excellence, and the scientific sessions and\n oral and poster presentations will showcase the best science across the\n RCMI Consortium. Hence, the overarching goal of the conference is to\n advance the science of minority health and health disparities through\n development and implementation of collaborative solutions to improve\n minority health and reduce health disparities.\n<\/p>\n

\n Following opening remarks by NIMHD Director, Dr. Eliseo P\u00e9rez-Stable, Dr.\n Joshua C. Denny and Dr. Kenneth R. Gersing will highlight research\n collaboration and funding opportunities with the NIH All of Us Program and\n the National COVID Cohort Collaborative (N3C), respectively. The Opening\n Session will also provide an update on NIMHD evaluation of the RCMI\n Program, as well as an update on the progress of the RCMI Coordinating\n Center in defining common metrics and data collection standards for\n evidence-based evaluation of the RCMI U54 Centers.\n<\/p>\n

\n The plenary sessions, oral and poster presentations, and concurrent\n workshop sessions will highlight the best science across the RCMI\n Consortium. The concurrent workshops will feature the following RCMI\n research awards and collaborations: (1) RCMI Data Science & Data\n Science NOSI Awardees Workshop will foster data science skill-building\n activities, proposed by the Data Science NOSI award recipients, including\n the collaborative development of new data science training modules focused\n on the analysis of health disparities datasets; (2) RCMI COVID-19 Awardees\n and Community Engagement Workshop will promote and strengthen academic and\n community partnerships in effectively supporting clinical and translational\n research that addresses diseases that disproportionately impact RCMI\n communities; (3) Practice-Based Research Network (PBRN) Workshop will\n discuss and highlight pragmatic and deployment-focused approaches that\n incorporate stakeholder perspectives in decision making for research\n studies, and service delivery strategies that are feasible, scalable, and\n sustainable, leading to improvement in health care services for populations\n that experience health disparities; (4) Research Infrastructure Workshop\n will facilitate communication about research resources at RCMI U54 Centers\n in order to enhance effectiveness and efficiency of core facilities, and\n promote innovative practices for collaborative and interdisciplinary\n research; (5) Investigator Development Workshop will focus on preparing the\n all-important Specific Aims page and provide useful insights into the NIH\n application submission and peer-review processes, including information\n about the Early Career Reviewer Program; and (6) Research Administrators\u2019\n Workshop will introduce how RCMI U54 Centers can showcase their scientific\n discoveries and community health impact with the new RCMI Consortium\n website, as well as share solutions on efficient data collection for\n progress reports, evaluation, and other research-related deliverables.\n<\/p>\n

\n The conference participants, including biomedical scientists, health care\n practitioners, trainees, clinicians, pharmacists, nurses and other allied\n health care professionals, and community and industry partners, will\n discuss and develop research strategies and approaches for eliminating\n health disparities. They will also examine career development opportunities\n and discuss the best methods and approaches for training the next\n generation of biomedical scientists and clinical researchers, as well as\n for engaging community partners and industry collaborations.\n<\/p>\n

\n Focusing on basic biomedical, behavioral, and clinical research, the\n conference abstracts will address several key areas including: Basic and\n Applied Minority and Health Disparities Research; Behavioral and Social\n Determinants of Health; Capacity Building in Health Disparities Research;\n Clinical and Translational Minority Health and Health Disparity Research;\n Community-Based Participatory Research; Data Science\/Big Data Applications\n to Health Sciences; Health and Health Care Policy Research; Health-Related\n Technologies; and Research in Special Population Sub-Groups. Hence, several\n important topics will be covered, including:\n<\/p>\n\n

\n HIV\/AIDS and infectious diseases
\n Nanoscience and nanotechnology
\n Neuroscience and mental health disorders
\n Public health sciences

\n This Special Issue aims to showcase the excellence in research and\n scientific discoveries on the above-listed topics. Submission of full\n manuscripts of original research, comprehensive reviews, and\/or short\n communications on any of these topics presented at the conference is\n strongly encouraged. If you are interested in submitting a manuscript,\n please go online at www.ijerph.com to register and submit your manuscript\n by the deadline on October 30, 2022. Submitted manuscripts should not have\n been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication\n elsewhere. All manuscripts will be thoroughly refereed through a\n single-blind peer-review process.\n<\/p>\n\n
