The goal of our RCMI: Interdisciplinary Health Equity Research Center is to develop DSU as a leader in biomedical, behavioral and social health disparities research. The project aims to: 1) build research infrastructure; 2) develop a new generation of health equity researchers; and 3) build collaborative relationships with community partners.

A way to combat triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) is by delivering personalized and targeted therapeutics for patients. To develop these personalized therapeutics inexpensive platforms for their discovery, production, and optimization/monitoring are needed. This study investigates development of protein-based TNBC immunotherapies that specifically recognize any patient’s TNBC cells and recruit the immune system to selectively destroy those cells.

The goal of this study is to investigate the underlying social-environmental risk factors that may contribute to sleep deficiencies among racial/ethnic minorities with the objective of determining how these sleep deficiencies may lead to disparities in mental and physical health outcomes.
Dr. Janeese Brownlow, Assistant Professor of Psychology
This project will contribute novel and non-invasive medical image analysis techniques for studying human body composition to achieve timely diagnosis of pathologies related to diabetes and metabolic syndrome. Our research interests will concentrate on identification of morphological patterns in the lower extremity that will eventually lead to development of imaging biomarkers. Our interest is focused on two main areas: (1) automated tissue identification and quantification, and (2) computer-aided tissue characterization and diagnostics.
