Unraveling O-GlcNAc Signaling in Melanoma Progression and Drug Resistance
This recently funded RCMI Pilot Project is studying why some melanoma skin cancers become harder to treat over time. By investigating the biological processes that help cancer cells grow, spread, and resist treatment, the research may identify new approaches to improve outcomes for patients. The project is currently developing laboratory models that will generate important preliminary data for future studies and funding opportunities. In addition, the project provides hands-on research experiences for high school, undergraduate, medical, and graduate students, preparing the next generation of healthcare and biomedical professionals. Through scientific discovery, student training, and community engagement, the project aims to improve cancer research capacity and benefit the Rio Grande Valley.
